The Lion That Escaped From Jos Park Shot Dead (Photos)
Residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital, have heaved a sigh of relief as a lion which escaped from the Jos Wild Life Park yesterday morning has been found and shot dead within the premises of the park.
The lion escaped from the park situated at Dong community of Jos North Local Government Area thereby causing panic among residents of nearby Dong, State and Federal Low-cost housing estates, Rantiya, Miango Road and Tudun Wada.

The lion which has been caged in the park since 1972 was said to have escaped at about 8am when park attendants went to the cage to feed it but a staff of the Tourism Cooperation confirmed “the lion was sighted within the park premises and shot dead before it could cause any harm to people.”
At the time the wild animal roamed the vicinity of the park which is not fenced, frantic efforts were made to recapture it. Security outfits in the state deployed personnel to the area to assist in keeping the animal within the park premises.
.
However, efforts to speak with the Acting General Manager of the State Tourism Corporation, Mr John Doy, whose organization oversees the park, was unsuccessful as he did not pick his calls but a staff who confirmed the killing of the lion lamented the death of the carnivore.
He noted: “We are not really having any significant animals in the park. It is the lion and the elephant that attract tourists the most but now that the lion is gone, we are sad because we cannot say exactly when we will have another.
“Since we lost the last hippo some years back, there has not been any replacement. We just pray that this case will be different because tourists may not really be excited if there are no high profile animals in the park.”

Father Who Impregnated His Daughter Protest As Baby Is Taken Away From Them
Incest is not against the law in Spain as long as it is carried out between consenting adults, but a father and daughter are appealing after a judge awarded temporary custody of their child to the state pending a full investigation.
The 36-year-old man insists he is in a "unique and loving relationship" with his 18-year-old daughter Sara and that they should be allowed to keep his newborn baby girl - who is also his granddaughter.
The man, who has given his name as Cris, told the local newspaper Cronica Balear that his ex-wife (and mother of Sara) had reported him for abuse because she was jealous of the relationship.
Talking about how he started the sexual relationship with his daughter, the eldest of five siblings, he said:"Our relationship started like they all do, with flirting, getting along and then trust.
"And everything was going very well until people found out about it," Cris told the newspaper.
"We may be father and daughter but she has never seen me as a parent because I am much more like a friend than a father figure," he said.
He has denounced the "moral judgement" of authorities in light of the fact that incest is not against the law and the age of consent in Spain is 16 years old.
His daughter claims that before giving birth she was given two options by social services; to give the baby up for adoption, or move to a centre and raise the child alone.
"When I fell pregnant I knew I wanted to keep it, I have always wanted to be a mother," she said. But within hours of the birth of her daughter last month the newborn was taken into care.
"My relationship may be unusual but it would be worse for a child to be given up for adoption or grow up in a centre," she said.
"People say (the relationship) is wrong, well I respect their opinion but I do not care," she told the local paper.
"The easiest option would have been to have an abortion but we decided to have our baby because we don't care what people think."

In a market update to shareholders on Thursday, MTN said that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had agreed to cut the fine to $3.4bn and that this penalty needs to be paid on or before December 31 2015.
Africa’s biggest mobile network MTN has announced that its Nigerian chief executive officer has resigned amid a multi-billion dollar fine in that country.
The company announced in a statement on Thursday morning that Michael Ikpoki, its Nigerian CEO, has handed in his resignation with immediate effect. MTN Nigeria’s head of regulatory and corporate affairs, Akinwale Goodluck, has also resigned.
The former chief operating officer and chief financial officer at MTN Nigeria, Ferdi Moolman, will become that business unit’s CEO. Nigerian national Amina Oyagbola has also been named head of regulatory and corporate affairs at MTN Nigeria.
The resignations in Nigeria come amid MTN being fined $5.2bn by regulators in that country for failing to disconnect up to five million unregistered SIM cards in that country.
However, in a market update to shareholders on Thursday, MTN said that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had agreed to cut the fine to $3.4bn and that this penalty needs to be paid by December 31 2015.
In the wake of the announcement of the fine in late October, MTN’s group chief executive officer Sifiso Dabengwa subsequently quit amid the company’s share price losing a fifth of its value. MTN’s former CEO Phuthuma Nhleko was then appointed as executive chairperson and tasked with tackling the fine.
